Tom Ramsey, who started his career with the Los Angeles Express, had his rights obtained by the Oakland Invaders of the USFL from the New England Patriots in a cost-cutting move by the NFL club.

Ramsey, 25, a three-year veteran who was with the Oakland in 1984, was acquired by the Invaders to play behind Jim Zorn, a replacement for the since departed Fred Besana.

“I'm disappointed I had to hear it from somebody else,” and not from head coach Raymond Berry “or someone else in the organization, if, indeed, it's true,” Ramsey told a reporter Monday night while the deal was in the works. “I am not even sure they can sell my rights like that.”
