'85 Chronology-Upsets & Overtime

Matt Robinson threw four touchdown passes, and Tim Mazzetti nailed a 27-yard field goal in overtime as the (3-1) New Orleans Breakers rallied for a 37-34 win over the (2-2) Pittsburgh Maulers.

The Maulers jumped to a 21-17 halftime lead behind a pair of Glenn Carano touchdown passes of 12 yards to Mike Harris and four yards to William MIller.

Pittsburgh then moved out to a 34-17 lead in the third frame as Carano found tight end mark Raugh for a 23-yard touchdown and kicker Efren Herrera connected on a pair of field goals.

New Orleans tied the game at 34-34 in the fourth quarter with an 18-yard field goal by Mazzetti and two big touchdown plays.

The first came on a 41-yard strike from Robinson to Ron Johnson on the Breakers' first play following a Pittsburgh turnover.

The Breakers followed up that score with a 22-yard pass from Robinson to Nolan Fransz with just over four minutes remaining in the final frame.

Mazzetti then closed out the scoring with eight minutes left in overtime to seal the victory for the Breakers.


Elsewhere on Saturday, (1-3) Arizona posted their first win of the season after a 20-6 upset win over the (1-3) Birmingham Stallions.
