Event Description: NFL Owners Vote
Source: UPI
The NFL owners voted Thursday not to hold a supplemental draft for U.S. Football League players this year.
The NFL held a supplemental draft last year, acquiring rights to players who signed with USFL teams and were not taken in the NFL draft.
Outside of Heisman Trophy winner Doug Flutie, the USFL hasn't signed any top college players this year. Flutie, the former Boston College quarterback, and New Jersey Generals teammate Herschel Walker will be available in the April 30 NFL draft. Walker won the Heisman Trophy in 1982 as a junior running back at Georgia. He turned pro after that season and has not been eligible for the NFL draft until this year.
Any NFL team interested in a current undrafted USFL player must use a regular draft pick.
