Michigan 28
Memphis 34

Cormac Carney caught eight passes for 149 yards and a trio of touchdowns as he sparked the Memphis Showboats to a 34-28 victory over the struggling Michigan Panthers.

Reserve quarterback Mike Kelley finished the contest 28-of-43 for 371 yards with four touchdown passes for the (2-1) Showboats.

The Panthers (0-3) were paced by quarterback Bobby Hebert who converted 23-of-43 for 359 yards with three touchdowns, two sacks and two interceptions.

Game Notes-Derek Holloway led all receivers with eight receptions for 173 yards and three touchdown receptions....Alan Reid led the Showboats ground attack with 115 yards on fourteen carries.

Jacksonville 16
New Orleans 20

Marcus Dupree made his pro debut on Sunday and rushed for 93 yards on 20 attempts, including the go ahead score, as the Breakers won their first game of the season over Jacksonville.

Johnny Walton returned to action for New Orleans and completed 18 of 29 passes for 288 yards with three picks and two sacks. Dan Ross led the offense with seven receptions for 122 yards, and Buford Jordan added 59 yards on the ground in the win.

Game Notes-Jacksonville quarterback Matt Robinson left the game in the first quarter due to injury and was replaced by an ineffective Robbie Mahfouz.

Oakland 21
Philadelphia 36

Chuck Fusina tossed a fourth quarter touchdown pass to Scott Fitzkee to help lead Stars to a 36-21 win over visiting Oakland. 

David Riley rushed for 100 yards with a pair of touchdown runs to pace the Philadelphia ground game.

Game Notes-Fred Besana finished 15 of 25 for 194 yards with two touchdown passes and two interceptions for (1-2) Oakland.

Los Angeles 18
Pittsburgh 35

The Pittsburgh Maulers dominated in their home opener as Glenn Carano completed 14-of-24 passes for 191 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and Mike Rozier rushed for 67 yards and a fourth-quarter touchdown run. Greg Anderson added seven receptions for 109 yards with one touchdown reception. 

Frank Seurer completed just 8-of-36 passes for 130 yards with five interceptions and one touchdown after replacing an injured Tom Ramsey.

Game Notes-Newly signed quarterback Steve Young should be ready to take the helm next week when Los Angeles travels to New Jersey.

Arizona 19
Washington 18

Doug Williams completed 12-of-29 passes for just 176 yards with a pair of interceptions and one touchdown as the outlaws edged Washington by a score of 19-18. 

Williams led two late fourth quarter drives to help Arizona overcome an eight point deficit as the Outlaws improved to (2-1).

Reggie Collier completed 19 of 37 passes for 163 yards with one pick and one touchdown for the (1-2) Federals.

Game Notes-Washington half back Craig James was placed on Injured Reserve and will miss the next few weeks due to a leg injury...Arizona linebacker Ed Smith led the defense with eleven tackles.

Tampa Bay 27
Houston 24

Gary Anderson scored a pair of touchdowns to help lead the Bandits to their third straight USFL victory. Anderson rushed for 106 yards on 20 attempts, and John reaves found Eric Truvillion for a 24-yard score as the Bandits upset Houston.

Reaves completed 26-of-40 passes with one interception while Jim Kelly was 29-of-44 for 365 yards with one touchdown and one pick for the (2-1) Gamblers.

Game Notes-Richard Johnson hauled in 10 receptions for 119 yards leading the Gamblers air attack.

Chicago 28
Birmingham 52

A record-crowd in Birmingham saw the  Stallions demolish Chicago by a score of 52-28. Over 62,000 went through the turnstiles as Birmingham improved to (2-1) behind a stellar performance from quarterback Cliff Stoudt. The ex-NFL veteran threw for 283 yards and three touchdowns as the Stallions torched the Chicago defense. Stoudt completed 21-of-29 passes with no interceptions or sacks.

Leon Perry led all rushers with 136 yards on 16 attempts with one score, and Joe Cribbs chipped in another 74 yards with a score of his own. Veteran Jim Smith hauled in seven receptions for 98 yards in the win.

Game Notes: Chicago pivot Vince Evans was knocked out of the game in the first quarter, his staus for next week remains in doubt...Tim Spencer rushed for 60 yards and a pair of touchdowns for the (1-2) Blitz.
