The prospective sale of the Denver Gold of the U.S. Football League to Florida businessman Joe DiGerlando should be completed by next Wednesday, according to Gold owner Ron Blanding.
Blanding has been negotiating the sale to DiGerlando for more than a week, seeking a reported $9 million.
He said Thursday he plans to meet with DiGerlando during the weekend in Chicago, where the Gold is playing the Chicago Blitz Sunday.
“I think we'll know whether we really have a deal or not by Monday,” he said, adding he hoped to have the papers signed by Wednesday.
He said he mailed DiGerlando copies of the team's contracts with players Wednesday so the prospective owner could “see if this club is really what they think it is. If it (the sale) falls through it wouldn't be from our standpoint,” Blanding said.
