Philadelphia's Kelvin Bryant not only outgained fellow rookie running back Herschel Walker Sunday, he outrushed the entire New Jersey Generals team.
Bryant rushed for 149 yards and five touchdowns and the Stars defense posted seven sacks Generals’ pivot Bobby Scott enroute to a 49-32 win before 38,205 at Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia.
Bryant, the Stars' prime territorial pick out of North Carolina, carried 28 times in outgaining 1982 Heisman Trophy winner Walker. Walker gained just 29 yards on 12 carries. New Jersey, 0-2, finished with 53 rushing yards and was outgained 415-334 in net offense.
Chuck Fusina passed for 158 yards and Booker Russell added 79 yards rushing with one touchdown run. The Stars' defense forced four turnovers in the first half including a pair of Bobby Scott interceptions.
New Jersey starter Bobby Scott finished with 286 yards passing and tossed four touchdown passes with two going to wideout Tom McConnaughey.

Wow. The Philly Stars ground game is really taking it to their opponents through the first two weeks. But at least against the Generals it made a little more sense. In their real 1983 encounter, the Stars rushed 47 times for 222 yards en route to a 25-0 shutout of New Jersey.
