The agent for Miami Dolphin defensive end Kim Bokamper says there is a good chance his client will be going to the USFL Arizona Wranglers or elsewhere next season, but Bokamper isn't as sure.
Bokamper, a Pro Bowl choice at linebacker before he was switched back to the defensive line in 1981, had five quarterback sacks during the NFL playoffs last season.
Morse said Bokamper, one of nine Dolphin free agents, had an offer from the Wranglers that doubles his offer from the Dolphins. 'There's a better than 50-50 chance of Kim Bokamper going somewhere other than Miami. I don't have real high hopes he'll be signing with the Dolphins,” Morse said.
But Bokamper said he wasn't so sure. “We haven't even talked to the Dolphins,” Bokamper said. “There's nothing to be optimistic about, but there's nothing to not be optimistic about.”
Morse said the Dolphins have offered a two-year contract at $175,000 per year to Bokamper, who earned $121,000 plus playoff money last year and was seeking $200,000 next year. Morse said the Wranglers offered Bokamper a package worth “two times as much over the period of the Dolphins contract.”
“My objective is to look 10 years down the road for Kim, and not just to 1984 with deferred compensation and things like that,” Morse said.
Morse said he told the Wranglers he would let them know by Friday whether Bokamper would accept the offer.
