Commissioner Simmons called for an informal straw poll vote regarding a move to the fall, a potential merger strategy, stadium issues and future television concerns;
The owners noted the following as recorded by Jim Byrne;
- The owners were called in the following order:
- Arizona Outlaws-Tathams & Dietrich:
- Lean toward a fall move; would support spring.
- Favor a merger strategy.
- Birmingham Stallions-Warner & Sklar:
- Favor a new television deal with any network other than ABC.
- Favor a merger strategy and a fall move.
- Anti-trust concerns.
- Chicago Blitz-Eddie Einhorn:
- Abstains.
- Denver Gold-Doug Spedding:
- Concerns regarding direct competition with Broncos.
- Fall television revenue is enticing.
- Undecided with regard to schedule switch.
- Houston Gamblers-Jerry Argovitz & Gene Burrough
- Pro-fall move.
- Stadium issues with baseball and Oilers.
- Jacksonville Bulls-Fred Bullard:
- Support any league decision.
- Pro-merger strategy.
- Undecided on schedule switch.
- Los Angeles Express-No representative at meeting.
- Abstains.
- Memphis Showboats-Billy Dunavant and Steve Ehrhart:
- Pro-merger strategy and pro-fall schedule.
- Concerns if remain in spring.
- New Jersey Generals-Donald J. Trump:
- Pro-merger strategy and pro-fall schedule.
- Could possibly sell team if remain in spring beyond 1985.
