Houston 40
New Orleans 23

Jim Kelly passed for 470 yards with four touchdowns as Houston downed New Orleans by a score of 40-23. The win clinched a playoff berth for the (10-6) Gamblers while also eliminating the Breakers from playoff contention.

Wideouts Greg Moser and Ricky Sanders both finished with 124 receiving yards, with Moser scoring via a 25-yard touchdown reception. Slot receiver Scott McGhee also hauled in a pair of touchdown passes in the win.

Johnny Walton completed 20-of-25 passes for 268 yards with a pair of touchdown passes and five sacks for the Breakers who have now fallen to (6-10).  Frank Lockett led the Breakers’ offense with five receptions for 105 yards and a pair of scores.

Game Notes-Kiki DeAyala led the Houston defense with nine tackles and one run stuff.


Michigan 49
Chicago 30

Bobby Hebert tossed three touchdown passes, leading the Panthers to a solid 49-30 decision over the Chicago Blitz

Hebert completed 20 of 29 passes for a season high 356 yards and John Williams added 115 rushing yards on 20 attempts with three touchdown runs for (8-8) Michigan.

Greg Landry, filling in for an injured Vince Evans, finished with 282 passing yards on 29 of 44 efficiency with a pair of touchdowns and one sack for the (6-10) Blitz.

Game Notes-Will Cokeley led the Michigan defense with nine tackles and one sack....Panthers tight end Mike Cobb led all receivers with ten receptions for 144 yards and Derek Holloway added four receptions for 103 yards with one score.


Birmingham 52
Tampa Bay 19

A crowd of over in 45,00 filled Tampa Stadium as the home town fans watched the visiting Birmingham Stallions coast to a 52-19 win over the Bandits.

Cliff Stoudt threw for 250 yards with two touchdown passes as the Stallions led the entire contest. Stoudt completed 15-of-23 passes with no interceptions. Stoudt also rushed for 34 yards and scored the opening touchdown of the game. 

Tampa quarterback John Reaves finished with 261 yards passing on 14-of-27 efficiency with a pair of touchdowns, one sack and two interceptions. 

Game Notes: Joe Cribbs and Leon Perry combined for 158 rushing yards with Cribbs scoring two touchdowns.

On Saturday, the Memphis Showboats edged Jacksonville by a score of 32-31. Walter Lewis led the Showboats with three touchdown passes and one touchdown run as Memphis improved to (10-6).

Also on Saturday the New Jersey Generals crushed Pittsburgh by a score of 38-10, Los Angeles dumped Denver 38-16 and Philadelphia pounded Washington 41-17.
