Mike Friede and Dwight Sullivan, who both played all 18 games for the New Jersey Generals last year, were waived by the USFL team Tuesday.
The Generals cut seven players and placed one on injured reserve to reach the 50-player limit.
Friede, a wide receiver who played two years in the NFL with the New York Giants and Detroit Lions, caught 25 passes for 379 yards and one touchdown last season. Sullivan opened the season as the starting fullback but eventually lost his job to Maurice Carthon. Sullivan was traded to Los Angeles during the off-season but returned to New Jersey before training camp.
The Generals also waived eight-year NFL veteran linebacker Don Goode, first-year linebackers John Miller of Mississippi State and Guy Ruff of Syracuse, cornerback Cookie Jackson of Mississippi State and quarterback Glenn Inverso.
The waiving of Inverso leaves New Jersey with three quarterbacks - starter Brian Sipe and backups Gene Bradley and Jeff Knapple. Running back Alonzo Paterson of Wagner was placed on injured reserve with an achilles tendon injury.
The Generals open their second USFL season Sunday at Oakland.
