'84 Chronology-Week #10 Roundup

Tampa Bay 14
Los Angeles 23

Steve Young  combined for 358 total yards leading the Los Angeles Express to a 23-14 win over visiting Tampa Bay. 

Young finished with 320 passing  yards with one touchdown pass, no interceptions and one sack. Young also finished with 38 yards rushing on five attempts.

Jo Jo Townsell hauled in just two receptions for 123 yards, but also scored via a 41 yards touchdown reception late in the second frame. Lonnie Turner added five receptions for 71 yards in the win.

The (6-4) Bandits were led by quarterback John Reaves who converted 28-of-47 for 277 yards with one touchdown.

Game Notes-Los Angeles running back Kevin Nelson led all rushers with 62 yards on nineteen attempts and one touchdown run.

Jacksonville 7
Oakland 27

Fred Besana tossed a pair of touchdowns to Gordon Banks as struggling Oakland improved to (2-8) after their 27-7 win over Jacksonville.

Eric Jordan led all rushers with 91 yards on 15 carries with one score and Gordon Banks hauled in a eight passes for 143 yards including a 52-yard touchdown reception. 

Jacksonville pivot Matt Robinson finished 16-of-31 for 197 yards with one touchdown pass and four interceptions for the (3-7) Bulls. Perry Kemp finished with four receptions for 67 yards with one score for the visitors.

Game Notes-The Invaders piled up 176 rushing yards on 35 attempts while limiting Jacksonville to just 36 yards rushing.

Memphis 19
Arizona 14

Mike Kelley completed 26-of-40 passes for 359 yards with one touchdown and kicker Alan Duncan connected on four field goals as the Memphis Showboats improved to (6-4) after downing Arizona by a score of 19-14.

Derrick Crawford led all receivers with 120 yards on nine receptions with one touchdown and tightened Gary Shirk hauled in eight receptions for 104 yards.

Doug Williams completed 23-of-43 passes for 179 yards with one touchdown and a pair of sacks. Newcomer Tim Spencer led the Outlaws’ ground attack with 42 yards on thirteen attempts with one touchdown.

Game Notes-Frank Minniefield led the Outlaws’ defense with eleven tackles and one forced fumble.

Michigan 7
Washington 26

Washington pivot Mike Hohensee finished with 279 passing yards on 21-of-35 efficiency with three touchdowns while leading the Federals to a 26-7 upset win over the visiting Panthers.

Hohensee found three different receivers for touchdowns and newly signed kicker Nick Mike-Mayer connected on a pair of field goals to mark the win.

Game Notes-Michigan quarterback Bobby Hebert finished with 328 yards passing but was intercepted three times to go along with four sacks.

Birmingham 31
Denver 0

The Birmingham Stallions defense shut down Denver en route to a 31-0 victory at Mile High Stadium.

Birmingham quarterback Cliff Stoudt led the way with a pair of touchdown passes and Ken Talton added a touchdown run near the end of the first-half.

Joe Cribbs led all rushers with 137 yards on 21 carries while also adding five receptions for 62 yards in the win.

Game Notes-he Gold were without starting quarterback Craig Penrose who was absent due to injury.
