Joe Pendry, coach of the Pittsburgh Maulers of the United States Football League, has been dismissed, a team spokesman announced today.

The team's owner, Edward J. DeBartolo Sr., made the decision after the 36-year-old coach refused to attend a meeting of team officials early today at the DeBartolo Corporation headquarters in Youngstown, Ohio, according to Paul Martha, the team's president.

Martha said Pendry's absence from the meeting, called to review the team's first season, was a factor in his dismissal. The Maulers ended their first season at 9-9, finishing in third place in the Atlantic division.
