'88 Chronology-Triple Play

Event Date: March 15th, 1988

Event Description: Generals Win Big

Doug Flutie passed for a touchdown and ran for another Sunday and rookie Gordie Lockbaum rushed for a 213 yards, to lead the unbeaten New Jersey Generals to a 37-3 blowout victory over theHouston Gamblers. 

Flutie tossed a one-yard scoring pass to Paul Bergmann in the second quarter after a 30-yard Alan Duncan field goal opened the scoring.

Flutie capped a six-play, 63-yard drive later in the period with an eleven-yard run as the Generals cruised to a 20-0 half-time lead.

Flutie completed 16-of-24 for 213 yards and Lockbaum added a pair of touchdown runs in the second half as the Generals cruised to victory.

In other Week #3 action; the Showboats downed Oakland on Thursday by a score of 38-30, and Birmingham won at home against Oklahoma 35-25 on Saturday.

On Sunday the Stars improved to (2-1) after edging Orlando 17-13 and Tampa Bay won their first game of the season beating rival Jacksonville 24-7 on Monday night.
