'92 Chronology-Gamblers Seek Insurance

Event Date: April 21st, 1992

Event Description: Gamblers Sign Secules

The Houston Gamblers have turned to journeyman NFL quarterback Scott Secules for insurance after injuries last Sunday against the Oakland Invaders knocked starter David Klingler (shoulder) out of the game. Backup Frank Seurer (knee) was also injured but remained in the game.

Even though Seurer was on the practice field on Tuesday and will be ready to play against Chicago on this weekend, the club was still pressing ahead with plans to bring Secules into Houston later in the week from his home in Florida and add him to the club's practice roster.

Secules, 27, played for the Miami Dolphins in 1991 and was most recently on the New England Patriots roster last July as a backup to Hugh Millen. He did not appear in any games for New England and was released in late August before the regular season began.

Gamblers head coach Forrest Gregg confirmed that the team was in discussions with Secules but declined to discuss specifics, saying he would rather wait until the quarterback was in Houston and signed to the practice roster.

As for this week the Gamblers plan to start Frank Seurer and go with Jason Garrett, formerly of the San Antonio Riders of the World League of American Football, as his backup.
